Probably only houses on the Greek island of Santorini are as lovely and white and blue as the Plže wine cellars.
Welcome to the most beautiful area with wine cellars in Moravia, namely a set of original wine cellars called Plže. When you see this site, you will understand why it has been declared a folk architecture preservation area. While walking along the picturesque alleys, everyone will admire the strikingly blue decoration of the cellars, which is unique and found nowhere else.
The Plže cellars are situated four kilometres southeast of Strážnice and fourteen kilometres from Hodonín. The area consists of about eighty wine cellars which have been built since the 15th century by wine-growers themselves. The wine cellars are organized into alleys with two small squares. Tourists love it and wine tourism flourishes here.
You can visit the Plže cellars at any time of the year. Wine-growers take turns serving visitors; there are always several cellars open during the summer. Lots of cultural events are held here in the summer months, because you can hardly find such a beautiful backdrop anywhere else.
And why is this place called Plže (which in English means “slugs”)? Because there are plenty of slugs all around!
