In which labyrinth will they pour you some good wine? In the Valtice labyrinth! And what is more, all year round.
The Valtice underground is a historic labyrinth of partially restored cellars. The total length of the thirteen interconnected cellars is nine hundred metres. You can go on a tour in the hot summer and in addition to cooling down in the pleasant underground climate, you will see wine cellars both large and small.
A Minorite monastery stood here once, but it was destroyed in the Hussite Wars. The buildings were demolished and the rubble was used to build houses. Fortunately, it was impossible to demolish the underground portion, too. These underground spaces were used as early as the 13th century and you can still visit them today.
You can go on a free self-guided tour with your kids or you can take them with you on a tour with wine tasting, where they will get some Valtice thalers. You can use the thalers to buy wine-tasting samples just like you buy toys or refreshments with special bank notes in Ikea if you are an Ikea Family member. The local wine experts are called sklepiéři here. In 2018, the underground cellars were awarded the highest title of TOP Wine Destination of the Czech Republic.
