Of course this is the place where the famous Battle of the Three Emperors took place. But Slavkov will also enchant you with its majestic castle with an extensive underground, and you can even play golf here.
Probably every Czech remembers the memorable year 1805 from their history classes as the date when the Battle of Austerlitz took place. Before the battle began, Napoleon’s adversaries stayed at the Slavkov Castle, while Napoleon spent the night there after the battle. The castle offers an exhibition dealing with this topic and in season, the spectacular and opulent spaces serve as an exhibition gallery for anything from art to wine. For kids, the castle has tours in costumes featuring a mysterious story.
You will find impressive cellars during a tour under the large castle. The underground hides a complex system of corridors, a bakery and a torture chamber. Take a walk in the castle garden, it is also of majestic scale. At the end, you will certainly deserve some refreshments in the castle’s restaurant.
The castle garden is interconnected with the Austerlitz Golf Resort. This is perfectly varied, with beautiful natural elements, and it is not just for members. So, if you have ever wanted to try this peaceful and tranquil sport, you have a chance to do so here!
When you go through the centre of Slavkov with a pleasant main square right next to the castle, take a look at the town’s Jewish sights, including the Jewish cemetery and the elegant synagogue in the Neo-Romanesque style. And then you can have a cold beer at the Slavkov Brewery...
