Bata Canal

The Bata Canal, or “Baťák” as the locals call it, is 53 km long and it is dedicated to recreational navigation from Otrokovice up to Skalice. Navigation also takes place on the separate river sections Kroměříž – Otrokovice and Rohatec – Hodonín. This unique technical achievement was built in the 1930s to provide irrigation for the surrounding areas and coal transportation for Baťa’s industry. To this day, you can see some surviving infrastructure, such as a coal tipper in Sudoměřice, tilting bridges, a lift bridge of a narrow- gauge railway, etc.

Rent a small motorboat for a cruise and be a captain sailing the waters according to your fancy. But feel free otherwise to take a more luxurious ride – just choose a regular cruise on a larger cruise ship.

But there is yet another way to navigate the local waters... houseboats ! With them, you can perfectly combine a cruise along the Bata Canal with discovering monuments, wine cellars and protected natural sites, as well as a bird habitat. And you don’t need a captain’s exam or a sea-wolf license from the Ministry of Rivers and Seas. Large groups can choose from several pre-arranged programs.

We recommend combining a cruise with cycling and, of course, with a visit to the sights in the area. Sampling regional specialities is basically a must, we probably don’t have to emphasize that. There is a great cycling route along the entire waterway (suitable for children of all ages and you don’t even have to have your own bikes, they can be rented here).

Motorboat, canoe and bicycle rentals are waiting for you in, for example, Staré Město, Uherské Hradiště, Veselí nad Moravou, Strážnice, Sudoměřice and Hodonín. So AHOY and see you on the boat!
