The whole Strážnice area is alive with folklore and music, and that is why the local chateau is dedicated to folk music.
According to written records, Strážnice was already a rich town protected by a water castle in the 11th century. Later, a chateau was built in its place, which took on a Classical appearance in the 19th century.
Strážnice is a town of folklore and folk art today. The chateau is the seat of the National Institute of Folk Culture. Of course you can see historic interiors with period furniture here, but the exhibition of folk musical instruments, absolutely unique in Central Europe, is undoubtedly the biggest treasure. There are more than four hundred instruments here! The bulk of the instruments belonged to non-professional musicians. The instruments are accompanied by an audio recording so that you can hear what they sound like.
The pink, green and yellow lounges are representative and host concerts. Visit the chateau park at the last weekend in June, when the International Folklore Festival, one of the oldest and biggest folklore festivals in the world, is held there.
