Seven hundred years of exemplary care by one family is something that has to be seen…The Liechtensteins administered the Lednice domain since 1322 and connected it with the Břeclav and Valtice domains. They gave the chateau its present appearance in the mid-19th century. They decided that Vienna was not the right place for aristocratic banquets andrebuilt Lednice into a summer residence in the spirit of the English (Neo-)Gothic. Magnificent meetings of European high society took place on the ground floor in the representative hallswith carved ceilings and luxurious furniture. The first floor was taken up by the family’s private rooms while children with their governesses were sent to the second floor. A tour of the castle is a luxurious experience, you won’t know where to look first.
And if your kids don’t have the patience to tour the castle yet, just visit the tropical greenhouse and walk around the breathtaking park with romantic buildings at every turn. (We definitely recommend at least the Oriental Minaret, which is also a lookout tower offering a view of the entire area.) Artificial islands on the water host aquatic birds and more. Detailed interactive exhibitions in the beautiful premises of the Lednice riding halls are dedicated to the landscaping and history of the area.
During the season, the castle hosts performances by swordsmen or birds of prey, flower exhibitions and promenade concerts. You probably won’t manage to see all of the Lednice Castle and its beautiful environs in just one day. Most visitors come here again and again.

Legend has it that around the year 912 a water fortress grew on a small rock in the middle of the marshes under the supervision of Princess Miroslava. Today it has the form of a castle and the name Miroslav.
Just as they have Karlštejn in Bohemia, we have Pernštejn in Moravia. It’s hard to find a more photogenic castle!
