The lookout tower overlooks two almond orchards on the Starý vrch (Old hil)l, at an elevation of approximately 300 meters, offering views of the nearby Pálava region. Constructed from various types of wood, ranging from oak to larch, the tower stands tall at 17 meters, and you can reach it via the delightful Almond Trail.
The trail will lead you through two almond orchards and other beautiful spots, covering a distance of 9 kilometers. If you wish, you can also use an audio guide during your walk. Enjoy a picnic in the gazebo near Přední rybník (Front Pond) and don't miss the seven information boards that provide fascinating insights into the locality and the almond trees. (For a shorter version of the almond route, a well-marked 5-kilometer option is available.)
Plan your visit to Hustopeče for a hike or bike ride, ideally in March and April, when the almond trees are in full bloom, painting the landscape in breathtaking pink hues. It's reminiscent of Japan during cherry blossom season. The view from the lookout tower is particularly stunning during these spring months. Moreover, in March, you can enjoy the Hustopeče Almond and Wine Festival. The trees are just starting to blossom, and as a bonus, you can taste local almond delicacies, including the famous almond liquoir (mandlovka). However, this festival attracts many people, so if you prefer a quieter experience, savor mandlovka or any other almond treat at any other time in the charming Mandlárna café in Hustopeče.
