A place of purification and deep Jewish tradition. Mikvah. The Mikulov one was discovered by archaeologists buried in a cellar.
A structure whose parameters remain the same for centuries. A brick tank with pure natural water, in which one can attain ritual purification. With a flowing spring, with free drainage. Deep enough for a grown person to fully immerse. With a capacity of at least 762 liters. On the eve of Shabbat and Jewish holidays, all devout Jews cleanse themselves in it. Believing women use it before marriage, after menstruation, and after childbirth. Entry to the mikvah is facilitated by internal stone steps. The mikvah is also used to purify objects of impure origin, such as new kitchen utensils before use in a kosher kitchen. The operation of the mikvah must be approved by a rabbi.
The Mikulov mikvah is located in a conservation area, where archaeological exploration fortunately precedes new constructions. And so it was discovered - completely preserved, but buried under a collapsed ceiling. It is probably from the 17th century, and visiting it will enrich your visit to the picturesque town, as you won't just find a lot of mikvahs easily just like that.
