It’s entirely up to you where you join the Czech Trail. Walk it in one go or in sections. Complete it in a year - or turn it into a decade-long project. Walk west to east or the other way around. Sleep in mountain huts or under the stars in a hammock. Anyone can do it. Literally - the full circuit has even been completed by animals. Besides dogs accompanying their human partners, there was even a goat…

Around the Entire Country

The trail follows well-marked hiking routes maintained by the Czech Tourist Club. The original northern branch measures around 1,000 kilometres, as does the newer southern branch. Both are cleverly divided into sections you can combine at your own pace - and at the end, you’ll receive a certificate confirming you’ve completed the trail.

Stezka Českem (The Czech Trail) in South Moravia

Several stages of the Southern Trail pass through South Moravia, including parts of the White Carpathians and the Česká Kanada stage, which starts (or finishes) in Vranov nad Dyjí with its magnificent château set in the beautiful landscape of Podyjí National Park. We recommend a detour to the Vranov Reservoir - also known as the Moravian Adriatic - for a refreshing swim in summer.

The Lower Morava Valley stage runs through South Moravia as well, offering mostly flat terrain with minimal elevation, leading through wine country and attractive towns such as Strážnice, Hodonín, Břeclav, and Mikulov.

For more elevation, choose the Podyjí stage, which runs from Mikulov to Vranov nad Dyjí. You’ll pass small wine villages like Jaroslavice and Vrbovec, as well as the royal town of Znojmo - the gateway to Podyjí National Park. Don’t miss the Hardegg Viewpoint on the Austrian border, offering breathtaking views.
