In Pálava and in Mikulov itself, tourists hardly know where to go first, but you definitely shouldn’t miss the chateau. It stands on a rocky cliff as the right landmark. Originally, it was a castle dating back to the 13th century, because it was simply impossible not to make use of such a convenient location. Today, no one would believe that the castle burned down in 1945, so successful was the subsequent renovation.
Most of the time, the structure was owned by the powerful Liechtensteins, followed by the Dietrichsteins. They left us a beautiful library and a hall of ancestors.
