Sloupsko-Šošůvské Caves

Where can you experience a parade of karst hits in one place? Right here! The longest cave system in the Czech Republic offers a choice of three routes. Which one will you choose?

This treasury of caving is located in the northern part of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area and its opulent, colourful and brittle ornaments will enchant you. The complex system of domes, corridors and stunning underground abysses was created by nature on two floors with a height difference of 60 meters. It is a part of the longest cave complex in the Czech Republic: the Amatérská caves with a total length of almost 35 km.

And now the promised karst hits. The Eliška Cave with its great acoustics offers live concerts (you can listen to recorded music during the tour). Do you think it will be Bach or Metallica? The Kůlna Cave provided shelter for Neanderthal man according to finds that are 120,000 years old. Skeletons of cave bears, lions and hyenas were also found.

The jewel of the caves is the Nagel Abyss – it is about 90 meters deep from the ceiling to the surface of the Sloup Brook and it is one of the largest underground abysses in the Czech Republic. And the Sloup Brook? It sinks underground just behind the entrance to the caves, flows through impenetrable siphons into the Sloup Corridor and reappears on the surface as the underground Punkva River at the bottom of the Macocha Abyss.

You can choose from three options all year round: a classic tour, a historical route or you can pretend to be a speleologist and walk through the Šošůvka part of the caves with a torch. For wheelchairs: a large part of the caves has been adapted to be barrier-free. It is also possible to take a shorter tour, without seeing the Eliška Cave and the Nagel Abyss (please book in advance). Have a wonderful experience!
