The Lednice-Valtice Area, the garden of Europe! One of the most beautiful castle surroundings in the Czech Republic, but also the largest artistically designed landscape in the world.
The endless landscape complex will enchant you here in the wine region of South Moravia, right next to Pálava. It was created from the 17th century to the 20th. At that time the land belonged to the Liechtenstein family domain, but today everybody can enjoy it as if they too were lords and ladies.
The axis of the area is formed by a Baroque chateau in Valtice and a Neo-Gothic chateau in Lednice. It is actually a giant English park. Baroque architecture meets a neo-Gothic chateau and small buildings in a romantic style: the Greenhouse, Hunting Lodge, Minaret, Apollo Temple, Pond Chateau, New Farmyard, Border Chateau, Temple of Three Graces, Chateau Jan, Obelisk, Reistna Colonnade and Rendez-vous.
Each of these buildings would in themselves be a perfect destination for a trip. But you can collect them along the way one after the other! It all depends on how much time and energy you have, whether you walk, ride a bike or go by car.
You can spend a great, action-packed day here. But because you won’t be able to see everything in such a short time, you will long to come back here, whether on a romantic date as a couple or on a trip with your kids and your dog.
The Lednice-Vatice Area is the largest landscape complex in Europe and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. If you can appreciate beauty, you just have to see this!
