Pálava is situated in the ancient cultural landscape of South Moravia. In prehistoric times, mammoth hunters made encampments here between Dolní Věstonice and Pavlov. One of them left behind the world-famous statuette of the Venus of Dolní Věstonice.

To this day, the unique natural landscape is a refuge for numerous rare plants and animals, so don’t forget to look down at the ground. The local rocks are unusual as regards their colour and shape – we bet that you have never seen similar rocks anywhere else. Pálava will present you with a successful example of a balanced relationship between humankind and nature, the result of which is a picturesque cultural landscape.
Mikulov or Pavlov is an ideal starting point for your trips.
Follow the famous red trail which leads along the ridge. It is a fabulous hiking experience. It connects the Maiden Castle (Děvičky or Dívčí Hrady) castle ruin, the Děvín National Nature Reserve with a peak of thesame name, the village of Klentnice with the Orphan’s Castle (Sirotčí Hrádek) castle ruin, the Table Mountain (Stolová Hora), the Turold Cave and the Goat Castle (Kozí Hrádek) castle ruin. You can enjoy lovely views along the whole journey. Looking down at your feet may be worth it, too, though. You might see irises and other colourful flowers. You will definitely deserve some great wine from local winemakers when you reach your destination after such a hike.
