The Town of Hodonín

Do you want to enjoy Moravian wine but you don’t want to worry about parking? Then come to Hodonín by train, it has good connections from everywhere. Hodonín is a laid-back town surrounded by nature, dedicated to spa services and relaxation. But this does not have to mean passive relaxation! Among cyclists, Hodonín is a well-known crossroads of bike trails which can take you both to the surrounding area and to Slovakia.

This Moravian Slovakian town is the birthplace of T. G. Masaryk. The main square with a picturesque town hall in the Nuremberg Art Nouveau style bears his name. You can hear the carillon from its tower three times a day. And once you are here, do not miss the singing fountain between St. Lawrence’s Church and the town hall. The shape of a wave symbolizes the meandering of the Morava River and the water show is complemented by music and colourful light effects.

But back to Masaryk again – visit the museum of the first Czechoslovak president in Hodonín. You can find it in the Late Baroque hunting lodge in Castle Square (Zámecké Náměstí). The house in which he was born is no longer standing, but you will find lots of references to Masaryk around the entire town. The town regularly organizes memorial days and other programs to celebrate this great man. You can join, for example, in the lantern parade in October.

The pleasant atmosphere of the Hodonín Zoo is a pleasant surprise for many visitors. It is rather small and not so many animal species are kept here, but the venue still boasts several rarities which you cannot see anywhere else. Big cats are doing well here – the family of white lions is a spectacular sight, while the Siberian tigers usually do not just lie around lazily but chase each other or frolic in the water. (By the way, actress Petra Hřebíčková, who was born in Hodonín, is their patroness.) A 3D maze just opposite the entrance to the zoo is a welcome attraction for kids. It is a smaller rope centre in the treetops, placed at several levels.

And since you are visiting a spa town, treat yourself to one of the local wellness procedures and to the mineral water which dates back to the Tertiary Period. Even people who come just for one day are welcome at the spa complex, in the open pavilion of the Bliss Day Spa.

Where else can you go? Hodonín lies on the Morava River. Head up to the Water Tourism Centre – the U Jezu Pier. You can go up to the estuary of the famous Baťa Canal by boat or on the beautiful ship Konstancie. It provides a fun version of the cruise for kids, during which the little ones help Queen Constance or play pirates.
