This system of the longest long-distance hiking and pilgrimage routes in the Czech Republic connects the country’s extreme points. Routes run through the heart of the country, along borders, and following historic boundaries. The two oldest Via Czechia routes - the Northern and Southern Trails - together form the first mapped hiking circuit around the Czech Republic.
The second-longest Via Czechia route is the Southern Trail, stretching mainly along the southern border from Aš to Bukovec. The walking version measures 1,052 kilometres, divided into 44 stages of 20–25 kilometres - ideal daily distances.
In South Moravia, the Southern Trail follows the Czech border with Slovakia and Austria, from Hodonín through Mikulov and Znojmo to Vranov nad Dyjí. Along the way, you can visit the museum of the Czech Republic’s first president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (in Hodonín), explore renowned Jewish monuments in Mikulov - including one of the largest Jewish cemeteries in the country — cool off in Znojmo’s extensive underground labyrinth on a hot summer day, or tour Vranov nad Dyjí Château, one of the most remarkable secular Baroque buildings in Central Europe.
