You can get from Brno to Popovice by train. You will easily find the Rajhradsko nature trail, which will guide you through Popovice. Turn to the forest called Bažantnice (Pheasantry), a temple of tall trees, and go through an alley to the Benedictine Monastery in Rajhrad. Its layout was rebuilt according to the design of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. The magnitude of his talent can readily be seen! The whole complex is dominated by the majestic abbot church of Saints Peter and Paul. Are you looking for quality literature? The historical library of the Museum of Literature in Moravia will enchant you. Here you can leaf through exact copies of the precious manuscripts that belonged to Queen Elisabeth Richenza (Rejčka)! If you take a little detour in Rajhrad, you will find the U Kašny restaurant, which has been recognized in the prestigious Gourmet South Moravia 2019 show.

Follow the red tourist marking, go past the chorus of frogs at the Ludmila pool until you get to Židlochovice. The effort of a local apricot breeder has produced the acclaimed variety “Fenzova Úrodná Židlochovická” (Fenz’ Fertile Apricot from Židlochovice) and the delicious fruit is celebrated by the Meruňkobraní Apricot Festival. You can buy certified local wines and apricot delicacies in the information centre in Židlochovice. The green tourist marker will then lead you to the Akátová Věž (Acacia Tower) lookout tower and then follow the blue tourist marker among the vineyards to Nosislav. In the centre of the village, admire the church with an ancient fortification and a hundred-year-old press for the grapes which flourish in this region. You can try organic wine at Válka Winery and maybe you should also write down the date of the Open Cellars in Nosislav wine festival.

Walk along St. Jacob’s Path along the border of the Výhon Nature Park back to Židlochovice.

Following in the Footsteps of Napoleon: Šlapanice

In the early 19th century, Šlapanice was primarily an agricultural center that supplied Brno with bread and milk. At that time, there were about eight times fewer inhabitants here than today. Although the actual village was not directly affected by the battle's turmoil, its residents experienced more than enough difficulties during those times. This was also contributed to by the fact that all three armies gradually passed through the town. Let's take a walk in their footsteps.
