A chateau which likes to accommodate unique works of art. For example, those from the collections of Meda and Jan Mládek. Have you played disc golf in the chateau park?
The original medieval castle was transformed into a Renaissance chateau in the 16th century during the reign of the Lords of Lipá. It got the form of a quadrangular building with a courtyard in the middle and beautiful arcades on three floors. The Swedish troops destroyed a great deal of it, so the chateau underwent several renovations. The last of them, in the Baroque style, was carried out under the Liechtenstein family.
Currently, the chateau houses an exhibition of 20 large-scale paintings of the Slavic Epic by Alfons Mucha - the phenomenal symbolist and the icon of high Art Nouveau. Follow in his footsteps where he loved it and where he get inspired.
Join a guided tour of the arcaded courtyard and see an exhibition of significant works of art from the collections of the husband and wife Medek. Visit mainly the chateau chapel and the knight’s hall in the interiors and do not miss the rare conifers in the vast English park. It is a perfect place to have a picnic and you can learn how disc golf is played. It has been a hit there in recent years.
There is a large Jewish cemetery at the edge of the chateau park. On some of the tombstones, centuries old, the inscriptions are no longer legible. If you want to extend your walk a little bit, head for the pilgrimage chapel of St. Florian. It is a charming building, but above all, you will have a beautiful view from there.
