Pilgrimage through South Moravia

A whole web of routes runs through South Moravia. Some rival famous international trails, others invite you to slow down and walk at an easy, comfortable pace. Pilgrimage no longer means strictly religious journeys to places of miracles. Yet on a longer walk, moments of quiet spirituality and honest encounters with your own inner world tend to appear naturally.

Tempted? We’ve put together tips for the top pilgrimage routes across South Moravia.

You’ve heard so much about the Way of St. James that it’s finally time to experience it on your own two feet. This legendary trail is part of UNESCO World Heritage, and every year hundreds of thousands of Europeans set out along its paths. Will you be one of them?

The Cyril and Methodius Route traces Slavic roots and leads to Velehrad, the spiritual heart of Czech pilgrimage. And if we add that Saints Cyril and Methodius are the principal patrons of Moravia… the destination is clear. To Velehrad!

A phenomenon of recent years is Via Czechia and Stezka Českem (The Czech Trail). Several of their sections pass through South Moravia, guiding you through landscapes so beautiful you won’t miss the sea at all - forest therapy in the pristine nature of Podyjí National Park, a swim in the Moravian Adriatic, renewed energy in the Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape (UNESCO-listed), and encounters with wine varieties you may never have heard of before.

Pilgrimage is an escape from the whirl of everyday life. Set out alone, with a friend, with your dog, or as a family group… We wish you a meaningful journey.
