Were all the tickets for the Punkva Caves sold out? Then head over to Ostrov u Macochy and you will find here a real karst treasure – Balcarka Cave. The almost five-meter-tall entrance is definitely impressive, but this also applies to the extraordinary richness of dripstones and unusual surface karst features (dents, lapies) that lie behind it. The cave area has become famous for archaeological and palaeontological finds. Significant species of thermophilic flora and the picturesque landscape in the surroundings will enchant you even outside the cave.
On a tour of Balcarka Cave you will see, among other things, the Dome of Doom and Foch’s Dome – one of the largest spaces of the Moravian Karst. The tourist route also includes a section with a museum, which presents the cave as a home for reindeer and horse hunters, and a generational wintering ground for female cave bears and their cubs. Don’t worry, you won’t meet any bears here today, but you will meet nice, talkative guides!
