Vranov Chateau is an exemplary secular Baroque site. That is why it is has served as a backdrop for many films and fairy-tales.
Castles and often even later chateaus looked down on the region from strategic hills. The luxurious Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau definitely has a magnificent location. Moreover, it stands in the beautiful Podyjí National Park . And yes, originally it was a castle built strategically on a steep rock 80 meters above the Dyje River, so that potential conquerors didn’t stand a chance. However, after a devastating fire, the counts of the Althann family had it turned into one of the most remarkable secular buildings of the Central European Baroque, with its impressive Hall of Ancestors, Chapel of the Holy Trinity, stylish Castle Garden and more. Its later owners brought the famous Vranov porcelain factory to unprecedented prosperity. You will see the porcelain here as well.
If you like tours of chateau interiors, you know that the Baroque ones are usually anything but modest. Vranov Chateau is a typical representative. Maybe that’s why filmmakers choose it as a setting for fairy tales and action-packed films. You may know Troška's fairy tale The Angel’s Face or the movie xXx with Hollywood action hero Vin Diesel.
And if you also like castles, go a little further go to Bítov, which is in perfect shape for a thousand-year-old building. For years, it has been organizing one of the best Christmas tours in the Advent season. Still, a tour of the interiors will not disappoint you even during the summer months.
