What is the best place to start your journey of discovery? The Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in Obroková Street where they will give you reliable tips and materials (the St. Clement Nature Trail leads here from the bus and the train station.) The TIC is just a few metres from a major Gothic feature of Znojmo – the 600-year-old town hall tower. Even if lookout towers are not really your thing, you just have to climb up the stairs in this beautiful town-hall tower. The view from the height of sixty metres will show you the most beautiful, oldest parts of the town with crooked streets and the green surroundings in the national park.
You can enter the Znojmo Underground just a few steps from here. This does not sound like anything too spectacular, but note that we are talking about one of the largest underground labyrinths in Central Europe with a length of 27 kilometres, which has four floors above each other. Moreover, you can fantastically cool off down here in the summer heat, and if you like adrenaline, choose one of the three adrenaline routes instead of the standard tour.
Yes, Znojmo is a wine town. But beer lovers will not miss out on anything either. Explore the history of beer in the modern brewing exhibition or visit the brewery with tasting of beer which has just been brewed in the Znojmo Municipal Brewery. It would not be Znojmo if even such a mundane thing as beer did not have an amazing historical background – you will find the brewery right in the area of Znojmo Castle next to the Rotunda of St. Catherine.
We have chosen a tour of the rotunda of St. Catherine as the icing on the cake of this trip. (It only takes half an hour, so even kids can manage it without complaint. Note however, that due to the protection of the precious monument, entry is limited by the current climatic situation, so please check the schedule in advance.) Also visit the castle right behind the rotunda, or rather Deblín Chateau to be specific. You can visit the Hradovánky Festival for families with children here in summer.
Enjoy peace and quiet and the breathtaking view of the Dyje River valley from the lookout near the castle. And you can buy a cold beer or some ice-cream at Teraza buffet. Can you imagine a better end of a trip?
