Ready for a perfect wine-sampling experience? We recommend that you come by train so that you can sample wines without any limitations!
Go to the main road from the train station in Valtice and continue towards the town centre. Turn left by Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) and go along the alley which is a part of the Wine Nature Trail Valtice (Vinařská Naučná Stezka Valtice). It will lead you to an opulent Baroque castle. You can find there the most prestigious competition of wines from all over the Czech Republic – the permanent sampling exhibition called Wine Salon. You can sample up to one hundred wines during public wine tastings.
From the chateau, go for a pleasant walk with a slight climb through the chateau park along the same nature trail until you reach the Resitna Collonade. You will have a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape from here. Like in the times of the Liechtenstein family!
Bring back your memories a few steps further, in the unusual Iron Curtain Museum. It shows the Czechoslovakian state border from 1951 to 1989. Follow the same nature trail from the museum back to the centre. Don’t forget to make a stop in the labyrinth of wine cellars, the Valtice Underground, on the way. After a few steps, you will come to the main street and red tourist markers will lead you back to the train station.
Are you full of impressions but you would like to extend the trip a bit and involve the other senses, too? We sincerely recommend to you the Barefoot Path. No bombastic funfair attractions, yet 10 out of 10 visitors clearly praise it… Join it on the way, either at the colonnade or at the museum.
Barefoot or with your shoes on, enjoy the trip to Valtice to the max.
