The castle originally served to protect the Rosa Coeli convent, which lies at the foot of the castle hill. For many years, the convent and the castle had sadly fallen into a dilapidated state, but they have been really lively again since 2007.

When you enter the main palace you will see a beautiful ridge vault, a conical portal or a Gothic semi-circular bastion with a partially preserved Gothic fresco decoration.

The time of medieval skirmishes is commemorated by moats, three castle gates and the remains of a drawbridge. You will see the original architecture from 1280, because the castle and chateau in Dolní Kounice is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic.
