The castle originally served to protect the Rosa Coeli convent, which lies at the foot of the castle hill. For many years, the convent and the castle had sadly fallen into a dilapidated state, but they have been really lively again since 2007.

Going on a tour is truly an experience. There is so much to see! The preserved architectural elements range from the Gothic to the Renaissance style. When you enter the main palace you will see a beautiful ridge vault, a conical portal or a Gothic semi-circular bastion with a partially preserved Gothic fresco decoration.

Anything else? Visitors can look forward to architectural and historical specialities such as the Green Room, where young squires were prepared for knighthood, a black kitchen, a demonstration of castle hygiene in the past and a unique spiral staircase that is unparalleled in the Czech Republic. The time of medieval skirmishes is commemorated by moats, three castle gates and the remains of a drawbridge. You will see the original architecture from 1280, because the castle and chateau in Dolní Kounice is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic.

Weekend tours are offered and castle festivities of local food and wine tastings are held here. Experience programs are organized for companies, schools and pre-schools. You definitely won’t be bored here!
