For the ninth time, the Janáček Brno Festival will fill with music the city where Leoš Janáček spent virtually his entire life.
Janáček Brno 2026 will be a celebratory edition, marking the tenth time that Brno immerses itself for several weeks in the music, inspirations, life story, and enduring influence of Leoš Janáček on both his contemporaries and future generations. This year’s theme is ROOTS, reflecting the idea that our origins shape who we are. In the work of artists—whether composers, visual artists, or performers—their roots remain present throughout their lives. Sometimes they are more visible, sometimes less so, but they never disappear. Through this anniversary edition, the festival aims to reveal the roots of Janáček’s artistic world, exploring where his creativity originated and how far its branches have reached.
The festival’s central programme will feature all nine of Janáček’s operas, as performed by the Janáček Opera ensemble of the National Theatre Brno. Joining the company for this extraordinary showcase will be outstanding guest soloists in leading roles, as well as renowned international orchestras and conductors, making the productions a truly world-class celebration of Janáček’s legacy
